I was just thinking about how people are treating God's word these days... many dont give so much importance to Bible... it is just treated like anyother book that is read..
Hebrews 4:12: "For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."
its so powerful....did u notice each word that describes God's WORD>?
ALIVE: it speaks even today.. Bible is not only about what God said... it is also about what God says to you and me today... its not only about what God did with His people.... it is also about what He does today!...
ACTIVE: It keeps talking to us every second... IF WE ALLOW IT to... remmeber John 14:26 says... "But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. " Yeah!... He teaches... and also REMINDS us everything!!! wonderful!
SHARPER: it divides the soul and spirit... To this world... the soul and spirit are used interchangeably... but God's word divides it!..as far as i understand, soul is your conscious AWARENESS of things around you. It is what makes you who you are! It is your personality, and makes you a little bit different from everyone else. Spirit is operating all the time but its diff to differnciate.... Your spirit is the source, and also the force or strength of your natural life. It determines HOW you think, while your soul determines WHAT you think... For instance, your attitudes and motives come from your spirit...
JUDGES: Yeah... He constantly makes you aware of your motives and your thoughts@!..
Past months I have read a devotional by Selwyn Huges's "Every Day with Jesus" which talks about "God's One and Only published work" thats the bible... It really changed the way I approached Bible.
Yes, I wanted to share few things that I am learning...
1) The way we approach BIBLE:
WE need to keep in mind that BIBLE is God's word... While reading it we need to approach it with the desire to increase our knowledge of Him and not simply to gain knowledge...because the more we know about Him, the more we want to live for Him'
2) Treat it with respct:
It is God's word... His word is powerful... so respect it and just dont use it like anyother book...
3) Its inexhaustible Book:
This is how John wesley describes BIBLE. Because, if u keep reading any book again and again, it would be exhausted in its meaning... but you can never exhaust the Bible's meaning. It talks in every situation... we just have to be still. Being still is not only being quite but to allow God to talk to us.
4) Need to know the Author:
As we read the book we know about the author. The book is physically written by many ppl but it is the work of the Holy Spirit. So to underdstand God we need to read His book..
5) Pray before you read:
Its possible that ppl may have read it many times and still not understand it. Its also possible that ppl may have done theology in BIBLE and still dont know the central message if it.. therefore its important to pray before we read it. So that the Holy Spirit leads us to truth.
I want to encourage and be encouraged in Reading the BIBLE and Getting closer to God.
